The campaign period of an election is a series of stunts for the media, according to former campaign reporter and former editor of The Age, Michael Gawenda.

I spoke to Gawenda about his experiences on the campaign trail with Kevin Rudd in 2007 and why he wants campaigning to be less about wearing hard hats, kissing babies and shaking hands and more about in-depth policy discussion.

This interview was first broadcast on SYN radio’s current affairs program, Panorama on July 12, 2013.
